A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend, Liubov (Luba) Afram, 44 years old, of Washington, DC, passed away surrounded by her family on August 8, 2024. Her beautiful spirit will live on in her two children, her goddaughter, and all those that loved her.
Luba was born in Sapozhok, Ryanskaya Oblast, Russia, on August 15, 1979 to Tatyana and Alexander Avdeyev. As a child, Luba excelled in school and her academic success was the pride and joy of her whole family. She furthered her education in the field of medicine, and worked as a doctor in Moscow before following her older brother Alex to live in the United States.
It was in Washington that Luba met the love of her life and her future husband Dr. Joseph Afram in 2011. They married in 2012 and started their lives together with a beautiful family.
Luba’s true passion was her children, David (12) and Sophia (10). Luba was a doting mother and there was nothing she would not do for her children. Everyday she showed her love with her delicious family meals, full schedules with music, dance classes, sports practices, and walks with friends in the neighborhood Hardy Park. She cherished moments with her family including her niece and goddaughter Angelica (10).
Luba loved to travel to new places, try new cuisines, and instilled in her children a lifelong love for adventure over memorable family vacations. She was always planning future trips with her husband and with her children.
Luba is survived by her parents, Tatyana and Alexander, her brother Alex (Angelica), husband, Joseph, and her two beloved children, David and Sophia.
Visitation is Friday, August 23, 2024 at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a service, open to all, is Saturday, August 24, 2024 at St. Aphraim Syriac Orthodox Church, 6200 Indian Run Parkway, Alexandria, Virginia 22312 at 12pm. Burial will follow the church service at Oak Hill Cemetery at 3001 R Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007.
