Jane passed away peacefully in her home on February 14th. She was born September 21, 1924 in Washington, DC and lived in the area for her entire life. She married another Washingtonian, Dick West, in 1941, which began a beautiful love story, whose last chapter was written when Jane joined Dick in heaven on Valentine’s Day.
Jane was a devoted mother and wife always seeing that her family was cared for abundantly. Jane maintained close relationships with her 3 children, Sally, Dick, and Tom, until the end of her amazing life. Her husband Dick died in 2013 after Jane had heroically cared for him for 22 years following a debilitating stroke. Jane’s courage during that time was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
“Nonie” was the north star for the family as it grew, welcoming generations to their home for many memorable milestones and holidays. She was much beloved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she treasured them so.
Jane was involved in philanthropic work and devoted much of her time to Children’s Hospital. She had a generous spirit and often reached out to help those in need. She had a perpetually positive attitude and could always make you smile. Jane loved spending time with her great friends at Chevy Chase Club and Maidstone Club over many decades.
Jane is survived by her daughter Sally (Daniel), son Dick (Linda), son Tom (Ann), five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date. A contribution can be made in her honor to Children’s Hospital.
