Helen J. Care, age 98, passed away peacefully at Ingleside in Rockville, Maryland entering Heaven on July 15, 2024. Beloved wife of the late George A. Care: loving mother of Robert Care (Nancy) and Catherine Milbourn (Gordon). Helen was much loved by her grandchildren Jackie White (Gabriel), Matthew Care (Colleen) and Jonathan Milbourn. Also survived by her great grandchildren John and Zachary Care and Emery and Nora White.
Helen was born in Indiana in 1926 to parents of European descent and moved to New York City in 1930 when she was four years old. Residing in the Bronx and Brooklyn, Helen lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Living in New York, Helen saw many Broadway shows, the 1939 World’s Fair and experienced the incomparable New York City restaurants and shopping.
After the War, Helen met and married Army veteran George Care in 1947 at The Little Church Around the Corner in Manhattan. The couple lived in Brooklyn and eventually moved to Livingston, New Jersey. Helen, an avid reader, secured a job at Burrell’s (Wynne Brothers) press clipping bureau— where Helen was paid for her favorite hobby—reading—specifically reading newspapers for clients. The couple eventually moved to Potomac, Maryland in 1966.
Helen was a devoted Christian, Girl Scout Leader, fabulous cook and baker, music lover and world traveler. Helen loved wild birds, nature and animals – evidenced by the many dogs and cats that filled her house over the years. Most of all, she loved her family.
