David was born in Erie, PA on January 10, 1939. He began his work at an early age in his family's drugstore.
He attended Gannon University, in Erie, for his undergraduate degree and moved to Washington, DC to attend Columbus School of Law at Catholic University, where he received his JD degree and later became President of the Law Alumni Society. His numerous awards and accolades are eclipsed by the many offices he held in the Bar Association, Barristers, DC Defense Lawyers, the Counsellors, Federation of Insurance Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and the American Bar Association House of Delegates.
After graduating from law school, David joined the law firm of Galiher and Stewart, followed by Partnership in the firm of Martell, Donnelly, Grimaldi, and Gallagher.
In his leadership positions and unique style, David never stopped sharing, with his fellow Barristers, that the business side of the law equation could not be ignored, but lawyers must be fully involved in the process, conducting themselves as business life professionals. David Grimaldi was available to everyone and always willing to hear their legal concerns. He loved the practice of law.
David lived a full and rewarding life. Aside from attending numerous law events, he was a tennis player, avid golfer, and chauffeur to 5 grandsons. He was a gentleman and devout Catholic with a strong ethical compass heard and adored by all.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eve, of 60 years, and 2 devoted children and their spouses: Felicia (Deric) and Dave, Jr. (Reem), along with 5 grandchildren whom he loved beyond measure: Grant, Cole, and Tucker Emry, and David, III, and William Grimaldi. He is survived by his brother, Dr. John Grimaldi of Erie, PA, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Anthony Grimaldi.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday January 9, at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle, 1725 Rhode Island Avenue NW, Washington, DC, where family and friends are all welcome. A reception of celebration will follow the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations in David's memory to his grandson's school, providing individualized education for students with special needs: The Harbour School 11251 Dolfield Boulevard, Owings Mills, MD 21117, www.harbourschool.org.
