Chris, family nickname Keek, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 2, 1944. As a child he moved with his military family to Panama, Virginia and New York before settling in suburban Washington, DC. Chris attended Blessed Sacrament grammar school and Georgetown Preparatory High School before joining the Jesuits as a novitiate in Wernersville, Pennsylvania. During his over 10 years in the Jesuit order, he received an undergraduate degree from Fordham University, a graduate degree from the University of Washington, taught at Scranton Prep, taught at Georgetown Prep and performed various other pastoral activities. After leaving the Jesuit order, he turned his focus to software development. At the Veterans Administration hospital in Washington, DC, Chris pioneered several codification advances in the heart pacemaker program. Because of his expertise, Chris was invited to Germany to consult on their pacemaker program. He later took several sabbaticals to Germany to consult.
Chris enjoyed mathematics, movies, puzzles, crosswords and other challenging games. He had a strong intellect and a great sense of humor. He was an avid reader and stayed current on all the happenings of the day. He enjoyed giving back to his community by working at the local soup kithcen. Chris loved to travel, especially to off the beaten path locations. He also greatly enjoyed the frequent family gatherings, large and small, at the beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where the family has gathered often for over 60 years.
Chris was a devoted brother, uncle, cousin and friend who felt strong family bonds. He had many friends and acquaintances from all walks of life. His love of family and history led him to be a sophisticated and passionate genealogy researcher and author.
Chris was predeceased by his sisters Louise and Mary Ann. He is survived by a brother, George McManus, and eight nieces and nephews, Carol Palazzo, Lisa Fitzpatrick(Terrence), Chris Garrett(Andrea), Pat Garrett, Hollie Alexander(Todd), Margaret Woodhull(David), George McManus Jr. and Christine McManus, as well as countless extended family and friends.
