Betty Cole Dukert died on Sunday, March 16, 2024. She had a long and distinguished career as a television news producer. Starting as an assistant to Lawrence Spivak on "Meet the Press", Betty retired as the executive producer 41 years and 2,000 programs later.
Along the way, Betty became a trustee for Drury College, a member of American Women in Radio and Television, American News Women's Club, Radio and Television Correspondent's Association, Women's Forum Washington, Society of Professional Journalists (Director 1983-1984, inducted into the Hall of Fame 1991), Silver Circle Broadcasting, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the National Press Club. Betty was the recipient of the First Amendment Service Award from the National Radio and Television News Directors Foundation. Beyond all of that, Betty was a grand raconteur of stories and events, both funny and serious, that filled her career. She was the wife of the late Joseph Dukert and she will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 2:30pm at the National United Methodist Church, 3401 Nebraska Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20016. Interment services will be held in Muskogee, Oklahoma at a later date and will be private.
