Anne Kneipple Warga

Anne Kneipple Warga died 11am EDT on 10 May 2023 at home in Rosslyn, VA, after a long illness. Survivors include her brother Stephen Mather Kneipple, loving husband Anders Warga, children Erik (Emmanuelle Dusart), Ingrid McConnell (Michael), Kristina (Jörg Andrzejewski), Nils “Bear” (Kelly) and twelve wonderful grandchildren. Her brother John Mather Kneipple died in 2019.

Anne Mather Kneipple was born 20 February 1943 in Evanston, IL, to the former Dorothy Kathryn Mather and John Burgess Kneipple, a lawyer for New York Central Railroad in Chicago. Her maternal grandfather was a financial reporter at The Chicago Tribune. Her paternal grandfather worked for the telephone company in Indiana. After her father took a wartime job in the U.S. government in 1944, the family moved to Silver Spring, MD., where she grew up. She enjoyed science fiction and loved animals, especially dogs. In her youth she held an FAA pilot’s license, and danced well. She played guitar and chess. She rode, and was Pony Club district commissioner. She was an enthusiastic home handyman and gifted amateur sculptress.

A 1961 graduate of Montgomery Blair HS, she earned a bachelor’s degree at George Washington University, M. Ed. from University of Virginia, and Ph.D. at George Mason University. She taught in public schools of Maryland, District of Columbia, Vermont, and Virginia, at elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Before she retired from Chantilly High School in 2008, she had long focused entirely on Chemistry. It was controversial when she first stopped assigning homework, until her students scored Chantilly’s highest pass rate in Chemistry SOL exam.
