Born in Barrington, the daughter of the late John and Concetta (Giannattasio) DiMatteo, she was a Barrington resident for many years before moving to Warren.
A skilled cook, she worked in the Rhode Island school lunch program for many years before her retirement. Her culinary skills were most appreciated by her family; each incredible feast put out was an authentic Italian experience, all made from scratch with loving hands and a warm heart. And when she dined out with friends or family and the meal passed her approval she’d always say, “it was excellent.” An avid reader, she also enjoyed taking chances at the casino with her son Peter and going out for lunch with her daughter Cindi.
Her independence and personal strength were a mainstay in her life up until only recently. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of Holy Angels Church in Barrington and found great solace in religious programs on TV. She also enjoyed watching football. And her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas when the family would come together. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia “Cindi” Borden and her husband Peter of Somerset; one son, Peter Lombardi and his fiancée Judith Spencer of Riverside; one sister, Irene Ventresca; three grandchildren, Jeff Lombardi, Laura Simcock and Andrea Borden; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Shelby Simcock and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Rocco, Anthony, Carmine, Alphonse and Assunta DiMatteo, Anna Mansi and Mary Chianese.
Her visitation will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 9:00 – 10:30 AM in the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main Street, Warren, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Holy Angels Church, 341 Maple Avenue, Barrington. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in Maria del Campo Cemetery, Barrington. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rose's honor can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington DC 20090.
