Gary George Mendenhall, 67, of Broomfield, CO, died on Fri., Oct. 4, 2013. He was born June 11, 1946 in Providence, RI, to John and Isabelle Mendenhall. He graduated Aug. 15, 1970 from Central Missouri State University with a B.S. in Business Administration where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity. Gary was a data processing technician in the U.S. Navy from 1971 – 1975 and received a National Defense Service Medal (NDSM). His civilian career began with Pabst Blue Ribbon and Budweiser in the 1970s – 80s, while he worked on the side toward his dream of becoming an airline pilot. He fulfilled this dream and became a successful pilot for American Airlines for 20 years. Gary was a man who always loved to work, so after retiring from American in 2005, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an aviation safety inspector, where he worked up until August of this year.
Gary enjoyed collecting toy trains, flying planes and sailboating. He had a love for travel, adventure and fine food. He enjoyed telling stories. He was an amazing, warm and caring man, who cherished his life-long friends, and who was loved by those many friends and family he met along his life’s journey.
A dedicated father, Gary is survived by two daughters, Heather Mendenhall and Michelle Mendenhall; his sister, Joyce Vaccaro; two nieces, Stephanie Hodson and Sharon Bobbitt two nephews: Edward D. Mendenhall Jr. and Edde Kane and many other family and friends.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 9:00 AM from the WILBUR-ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 615 Main St., Warren with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 646 Main St. Warren. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Bristol. Calling hours, Friday 4-7 PM.
