Daniel Ryan, age 80, of Warren, RI, peacefully passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, at his residence with his loving wife and daughter by his side. He was the husband of Patricia (Daly) Ryan for 55 lively adventurous years.
Born in Tipperary, Ireland, son of the late Martin Ryan(Lar) and Winnifred Ryan(Joe), second youngest of ten children, six brothers and three sisters, he left his Kilcommon home on the farm in Loughisle at a young age to be greeted by his brothers in Dublin who quickly took him under their wing to train him in the bar business.
In 1964 after landing at Kennedy Airport he made his way behind the bar on this side of the pond and later he settled in the Bronx surrounded by good friends from Home who became his extended family in the States. There was no shortage of shenanigans with this crowd who loved to sing, dance and celebrate and at the end of the day were always there for eachother. He owned two pubs Good Time Charlie’s and later Danny’s both located on Kingsbridge Road where many loved to gather, laugh and have a drink or two – perhaps he would join you. Always with a smile and bit of mischief in his eye he was ready to embrace whatever came his way.
After leaving the bar business, he worked several years in the Manhattan School System as a janitor often referring to himself as “the key man on the job.” Very social, he enjoyed people more than anything, always with a smile, a story to tell or ear to listen with.
Later his favorite times were spent with his family and helping to raise his four granddaughters who he absolutely lived for. One of his greatest joys was watching them play sports and there was no shortage of games to see. Whatever needed to be done, he was there to lend a hand; he welcomed manual labor and staying busy. Daily he would put on his chauffeurs cap to take any of the girls and their friends to whatever the day’s calendar held. He was known around town as “Poppy” to all. He truly loved buying the children treats before and after games or practices, even when he was told not to.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Karen Ceseretti and her husband Mark of Barrington; four granddaughters, Isabella Sunshine, Patricia “Patsy” Jordan, Grace Daly, and Danielle “Dani” Ryan; two brothers, Christy Ryan and Joseph Ryan; three sisters, Sheila Brown, Ann Hogan, and Mary Ryan all of Ireland and many loved nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Martin Ryan, Mick Ryan, Johnny Ryan and Larry Ryan.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 10:00 am from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren.
