Yvonna “Evelyn” Ranger, age 85, passed away on July 18, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on September 21, 1938, to Haydon S. Hall and Yula (Brown) Hall in Emanuel, Kentucky. Evelyn grew up in Kentucky until she was nineteen years old, and then moved to Michigan with the thought of nothing but endless opportunities in mind. However, even though she lived the rest of her life in Michigan, she was always true to her Kentucky roots: taking pride in being a hillbilly from the south.
Evelyn’s life was marked by a deep and abiding love for her family. In 1959, she met Stanley “Joe” Ranger, the love of her life, and they married on March 7 of the same year. Their enduring love spanned sixty-four years until Joe’s passing in 2023. Together, they shared a home for sixty-three years where they lovingly raised their beautiful family.
Evelyn’s devotion to her family knew no bounds. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely, often spoiling them with treats from her cherished chocolate drawer. Her commitment to family also extended to organizing the Hall family reunion for several consecutive years, ensuring bonds were strengthened and memories cherished.
A woman of steadfast faith, Evelyn grew up in the church. She found immense joy in worship and fellowship, eagerly participating in church activities and events over the years. She was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church, where she would attend each week for sermons about living life not according to our plans, but His plans. She also demonstrated her love for the Lord by dedicating herself towards serving her community. She was Den Mother for the Girl Scouts for many years, leaving a positive impact on countless young lives.
Evelyn’s enthusiasm for the God also extended into the holiday season with Christmas. Her love for Christmas was infectious. She delighted in decorating her home extravagantly, baking holiday treats, and most importantly, gathering with family to celebrate the season. Trips to Bronner’s for even more Christmas festivities were a tradition that brought her joy.
She also loved to travel. Her adventurous spirit took her across the United States, visiting all 48 contiguous states. Among them, Alabama, California, and her native Kentucky held a special place in her heart because family could be found there. Visiting these three states were her favorite places to travel solely because she could be with her family and create lasting memories in those places.
Evelyn Ranger’s legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
