William Bernard Sollars, age 85 of Warren, died Monday, July 12, 2010 at Church of Christ Nursing Home in Clinton Township, Michigan. William was born September 02, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Kendall Sollars and the late Elizabeth (nee: Youtt) Sollars. William was raised in Detroit and served in the United States Army during World War II having attained the rank of Corporal Tec 5, with Patton's 3rd Army 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment. He enlisted on March 24, 1943 at Ft. Custer, Michigan and was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945 at Atterbury, Maryland. Upon his return from his military service Mr. Sollars worked various jobs before being hired by the City of Warren within the Water Department. He and his wife moved to Warren in 1951 and resided in Warren until his retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Sollars moved to Morley Michigan where they would enjoy their retirement until returning to Warren in 2005. William Sollars was a generous and kind person who often offered to pay a Warren residents delinquent water bill instead of having to shut their water off. William was a great baseball player as a young man. He loved the game so much that on his wedding day lost his wedding ring while tossing a baseball around with his brothers. He also loved to golf and bowl in his later years. William was the beloved husband of the late Marian E. Sollars, and is the loving father of William Sollars, Robert Sollars, Kathleen Dodson, Kevin Sollars, Cynthia (Bill) Hopkins, and the late Kenneth Sollars. He was the dear brother of Gerald (Marilyn) Sollars, Judith (Frank) DiBianca, and predeceased by siblings; Robert, Richard, Elizabeth, James, and Leonard. He also survived by 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many loving family members and friends. Visitation for Mr. Sollars will be held Sunday from 5-9 pm and Monday from 2-9 pm with a 7 p.m. K of C Rosary at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road). Mr. Sollars will lie in state Tuesday 9 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am. Memorial donations appreciated to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, P.O.
