Walter Kemp, age 100, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at his home in Warren, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born April 22, 1915 in Lee, Pennsylvania, son of the late Ignatz Kempinski and the late Katherine (nee: Sudol) Kempinski.Walter was raised in Pennsylvania and later worked in the coal mines until other employment opportunities arose with work in Michigan. Walter moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1935 and found work within the tool and die industry. In addition to his work, he also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.While going on a blind date, Walter met the love of his life, Marguerite Custer and the two would eventually join in holy matrimony in 1942. However, the honeymoon did not last long as World War II was still brewing and Uncle Sam called Walter to serve. He entered his Naval service November 2, 1943 and served aboard the USS Cooper eventually attaining the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd Class. With America's victory in World War II and his honorable discharge in hand, Walter returned to Detroit, his dear wife, and continued his career as a Tool & Die maker.Walter was a gifted "hands on" machinist and Tool & Die maker who could achieve any task put before him. He worked and retired from Tishken Products in Detroit after many faithful years of service. Walter was truly part of the greatest generation of Americans who chose to put their family, faith, and country above everything. He was loved by all of whom he met, and respected further by those with whom he worked and played.During his younger years, Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a champion at Euchre, and cherished the card playing nights with family and friends. He will forever be remembered as a kind & gentle giant who loved his family and country.Walter was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite, and the dear father of Kay (Don) Stone, Karen (Mike) Connell, Patty Heyl, Janet (Marty) Lutz, and the late Gary Kemp. Father in-law of Lynn Kemp, and loving grandfather of Kim (Rory) Willing, Mike (Jen) Stone, Matt (Amy) Stone, Chris Stone, Rick (Colleen) Maris, Chad Kemp, Mark (Keri) Maris, Bob Heyl, Tim Heyl, Kristie Kemp, Kelly (Ron) Conley, Danny Heyl, Loretta Connell, and the late Jeff Kemp. Cherished great-grandfather of Samantha Willing, Michial Connell, Alexis Stone, Connor Stone, Giselle Stone, Merrick Maris, Miles Marris, Coleton Maris, Marissa Maris, Tiffany Maris, Ashlee Maris, Jayden Kemp, and Jordan Kemp. Visitation for Mr. Kemp will be held Monday, May 18th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 mile) in Warren. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, 11am at the Funeral Home. Celebrating the service will be Chaplin Sharon DeVeto. Interment will follow in Romeo Cemetery.
