Thomas Michael Gondek, age 66, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. Thomas was born January 14, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Nellie (nee: Uryga) Gondek and the late John Gondek.Thomas was born with Down Syndrome, a disability that never seemed to distract his personal happiness nor his family's love for him. As a young boy he played baseball with the children in the neighborhood, and in later years enjoyed watching sports. Thomas was very friendly to everyone he met and seemed to make a new friend with every outing or party with his family. He was the life of a party and was considered by others as a member of their family as well. For the majority of his life Thomas lived with his mother and the two worked as a team. Even though Thomas' speech was limited to only several words such as Pop, No, Go Blue, Bibi (meaning Pizza)... he always seemed to get his messages across. He had an innate sense of direction and would guide his mother while driving if she made a wrong turn.Thomas was the beloved son of Nellie Gondek and the late John Gondek. He is also the loving brother of Jeanne (Dennis) Walkowicz, and the late Stanley (Susan) Gondek. Thomas is further survived my many dear relatives and friends. Thomas will lie in state on Saturday, May 5th from 8:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Blase Catholic Community Church, 12151 Fifteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr. Randy Phillips. Please share memories of Thomas at his memory book above.
