Thomas Arnold Baines, age 86, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on February 4, 1938, to parents Thomas S. Baines and Marguerite Arnold, in Wyandotte, Michigan. Thomas lived a life rich in experiences and memories and touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Thomas was a man of many interests, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep affection for Army movies, often immersing himself in tales of bravery and sacrifice that resonated deeply with him and his own service to our country. His love for movies and television shows was matched only by his enthusiasm for playing six-handed euchre, where he would create cherished memories with each hand dealt.
Even so, Thomas's greatest joy was found in the company of his loved ones. He was a dedicated family man, cherishing every moment spent with his relatives, and creating memories that will endure through the years to come. One of his endearing habits was his tradition of sharing M&Ms with those close to him, a small gesture that spoke to the level of his affection and care.
Thomas had a fondness for the finer things in life, savoring in the taste of a pint of Guinness, which he enjoyed with friends. He was a familiar face at the Ecorse Rowing Club, where he found comfort in the peacefulness of the water, rowing alongside fellow members, or telling stories of their time on the Detroit River together. Additionally, he was a respected member and instructor of the Ecorse Rifle Club, where he shared his skill and passion for marksmanship with others. The Ecorse community, as well as many others, will forever cherish the legacy Thomas brought to both the Rowing Club and Rifle Club.
In the hearts of those who knew him, Thomas Arnold Baines will forever be remembered for his kindness and his unwavering devotion to the things and people he loved. While he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to uplift us, serving as an inspiration of a life well-lived. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
