Sonia Sassin

Sonia was married to the love of her life, Louis John Sassin, for 41 years until his passing in 1999. Sonia and Louie began their journey in business with Louie's Melon Patch in Warren, a venture that marked the beginning of a legacy. Their entrepreneurial spirit led them to expand and open Farmers Market on Gratiot in Clinton Township. While growing this business, Sonia also stayed at home to raise four wonderful boys, instilling in them the values of hard work and love. For 40 years, Sonia and Louie dedicated themselves to their family business, which remains a testament to their hard work and vision.

In her leisure time, Sonia found joy in dancing—both ballroom and tap (which she took up in her 50s!). She was a fashionista before it was even a word—often changing her clothes AFTER she left the house for school so her less fashionable mother wouldn’t know what she was wearing. She loved shopping for clothes with a special fondness for animal prints and statement jewelry.

Sonia also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing pinochle with friends, and gardening. She was a proud member of the Venetian Womens Club. She always had time to chat with the regulars who visited the store, her neighbors, and her many friends. Sonia’s passion for life and unwavering devotion to her family will be remembered by all who knew her.

Sonia was the beloved wife of the late Louie. Loving mother of Matthew (Lynn), Michael, Gregory (Donna), and the late Louis. Cherished grandmother to Rebekah Sassin, Rachel (Vince) Ventimiglia, Renee (Alex) Wojcik, Leah (John Wylie) Sassin, Noah Sassin, Sarah Sassin, Ashley Sassin, and Jenna Sassin. Adored great-grandmother of Giovanni, Sofia, Giancarlo, and Vincent Ventimiglia; and Elijah, Ella, and Emersyn Wojcik. Dear sister of Lilly (Kenneth) Kostielney, the late Silvana (Joseph) Plazonja, and the late Mary Lou Bertolini. Special aunt of Jonathan, Alisa, Elizabeth, and Emily.

A Memorial for Sonia will be held on Wednesday, August 28th from 12-3pm with a Memorial Service at 2:30pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road in Warren.
