Robert Edward Lang

Robert E. Lang, age 82 of Roseville, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at home. He was born on August 20, 1929 in Detroit, son of the late Joseph J. and the late Rita L. (nee: Inman) Lang. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Robert for his service to our country during the Korean War era. Having reached the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Army, his primary duties were that of Communication Specialist where his expertise was put to work at the White House. Throughout his 2 years of service, he worked closely with both President Truman and President Eisenhower in their day-to-day contacts and administration. We honor Robert for the call-to-duty he so proudly served, and the part he played in helping to preserve the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. A loving husband for over 61 years, he and Janice enjoyed a wonderful life together building the bonds of home, raising a family, and growing more in love each day. Though the memories they created were many, some of the most treasured to Robert were those spent square dancing with his favorite girl. The two of them also enjoyed singing, and it wasn't uncommon to hear Robert filling the house with his own style of melodic happiness. Then came the grandchildren, and there's never been a more doting grandfather than Robert. Family meant the world to him, especially when it came to his children and grandchildren. He was always involved and eager to partake of their many events and accomplishments. With great anticipation, they could always count on Dad or Grandpa to be there supporting their every effort. When he wasn't working, like many men, some of his favorite pastimes were enveloped by sports. From enjoying a beautiful day on the links, to his prowess in the game of bowling, Robert was truly a people-person who found great delight in sharing his sporting enjoyment in the company of family and friends. Yet, perhaps, his favorite of all was baseball, a game which held special memories for him as well. In his younger years, Robert loved playing the game. And not only was he proficient at the sport, he was honored to have been invited to try out with the Detroit Tigers. It was a memory that he always held dearly and proudly. Born, raised, and a lifetime resident's of Michigan, Robert's golden years found he and Janice enjoying their annual escapes from the wintry environment of the Mitten to the sunshine and warmth of New Port Richey, Florida. There was always something special and genuine about exchanging the overcast skies for the sunnier kind,...and not having to be concerned about shoveling snow. Lastly, the story of Robert just has to include his renowned sweet tooth. Nothing says happy like a good piece of pie, and his sweet cravings were never more satisfied than through a slice of his bride's Cherry Pie! Yet every now and then, a trip to the Sander's store was in order when his taste buds would crave his other favorite treat, the infamous Bumpy Cake. Got Milk? A loving husband, father and Grandfather, Robert leaves behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten, and will forever provide cherished memories of the times and lives that were made so much more special by his care. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. He was the beloved husband of Janice. Dear father of Kurt (Barbara), David (Robin), and the late Craig. Loving grandfather of Lisa (Amir), Ryan, Matthew (Krista), April, Chris (Mandie), Amy, and great-grandfather of Jayden, Juliana, and Layla. A Memorial Visitation for Robert will be held on Wednesday, August 8th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren.
