Robert was a devoted father to Jim (Debbie), George, Kathleen (Clyde) Ravenscroft, Tom (Stella), Alice (David), Terry (Carol), Barbara (Doug) Glidden, Kevin, and Bob (Kim). His role as a father extended beyond providing guidance and support; he instilled values of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family bonds.
The joy of Robert's life was his role as a loving grandfather to Holly, Matt (Amy), Alex, Jessica (Michael), Michael T. (Candice), Michael J. (Audrey), Megan (Eli), Sean, Jim (Shelby), David (Kelly), Kathleen (Terrin), and Evan. He found immense delight in being present in their lives, imparting wisdom, and creating lasting memories together. His pride as a great grandfather knew no bounds, with Olivia, Penny, Quinn, June, Faye, Warren, and Wade bringing him an additional source of happiness and fulfillment. He was a hero to them all.
Robert's commitment to serving his country was evident in his seven-year tenure as a reservist for the United States Marines. He was called into active duty during the Korean War in 1950 and achieved the rank of sergeant. His dedication to duty and honor exemplified his steadfast character.
On June 18, 1953, Robert married the love of his life, Kathleen, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Highland Park. Their union was a partnership built on mutual respect, unwavering love, and shared dreams.
In pursuit of a better future for his family, Robert attended night school at Lawrence Technological University, ultimately earning a degree in Civil Engineering. His expertise and knowledge were put to use when he constructed the family home in Warren, where his children were raised. His passion for construction led him to establish his own successful construction company, specializing in commercial and industrial projects, a venture he passionately pursued for four decades.
Upon retiring, Robert's passion for craftsmanship led him to embark on a new journey as a master cabinet maker, honing his skills for an additional 30 years. His dedication to his craft was emblematic of his determination and unyielding pursuit of excellence.
Beyond his professional achievements, Robert was a man of deep faith and lived his life by a set of guiding principles: God, Family, Country, Corp. His devout Catholicism was exemplified through his service as an altar boy and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs. Despite his tone-deaf singing, Robert's joyful voice could often be heard resonating throughout the church during Mass, embodying his vibrant spirit.
