Robert A. Binkowski, "Bob," age 72, an attorney in Warren for over 45 years, died Friday January 3, 2020 at the Windemere Park Assisted Living in Warren, Michigan. Robert was born August 1, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Edward J. Binkowski and the late Helen M. (nee: Sermusin) Binkowski.
Bob was raised on the east side of Detroit in a loving, Polish Catholic family. At an early age Bob was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. However, as a strong willed and determined young man, he never let his diabetes interfere with living a full life. From a young age and being musically inclined, Bob learned to play the accordion, piano, clarinet, saxophone, and even the drums. Bob would go on to attend and graduate from De LaSalle Collegiate Catholic High School in Detroit where he was the drum major in the band, and also ran track. Following high school Bob matriculated on to Wayne State University where he achieved his Bachelor’s Degree, followed by his Juris Doctorate in Law. During law school Bob clerked for Federal Judge Joiner.
During his time in high school and college, Bob worked for his father’s construction company. He would eventually become a lawyer, however Bob always loved the construction business and even built his second home in Warren. Bob sealed his vows of matrimony with the love of his life, Priscilla (nee: Toth), on September 20, 1969 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Detroit.
Bob and Priscilla would make their home in the burgeoning community of Warren, Michigan where the couple raised their two sons. Bob’s world rotated around his family, his career as a lawyer, and his volunteer work within the community. He was very active when his sons were young and in the Boy Scouts, volunteering as a leader along with the boys sporting and extracurricular events as well. Bob served as a soccer referee after his sons played the sport during their youth.
Bob was a member of the Warren Kiwanis Club for many years, and also served as a Warren City Councilman for 8 years. He and his family were active members of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church for over 50 years. Bob always stayed very busy during his life and made many friends and colleagues along the way with his quick wit and bit of cynicism. He even wrote mystery dinner plays over the years for Warren Friends of the Library, which played out with friends and colleagues at local banquet halls.
Time away from home and the daily grind would find Bob and Priscilla enjoying many shipboard cruises, in addition to attending his grandchildren’s events and holiday celebrations.
Bob was the loving husband of Priscilla Binkowski and was the dear father of Matthew (Melissa) Binkowski, and David (Audrey) Binkowski. He was the loving grandfather of Elise, Miles, Erek, Alexander, and Henry. Bob was the beloved brother of E. Don Binkowski, Sharon (James) Maund, and is also survived by many family members and friends.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Friday, January 10th, from 3-9 pm, with a 7 pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
Mr. Binkowski will lie in state on Saturday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr. Roman Pasieczny.
