Rita Pordon, age 88, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Rita was born October 25, 1928 in Detroit, daughter of the late Anthony and the late Helen (nee: Pawlak) Rychcik.Rita was born and raised in the city of Detroit where she grew up in a very traditional Polish family and attended a Polish, Catholic High School in Hamtramck by the name of St. Ladislaus. While at St. Ladislaus High School, Rita was proud to have graduated as the class Valedictorian. At an early age, Rita met the love of her life, Stanley R. Pordon. Rita had become friends with one of Stanley's cousins, and this cousin helped open the doors to what would become a loving relationship,...and ultimately to the altar of marriage. It was a love that would span almost 65 years until Stan's death on March 19, 2015.In her younger years, Rita had many hobbies that would bring her joy. She loved to tend to her garden, both she and Stanley were avid bowlers, and Rita also enjoyed constructing various crafts. Most of Rita's time was spent around her family. Like many families of her era, there were hours upon hours spent around a table playing cards. The card game of choice was usually pinochle. When Rita wanted to escape for a little quiet time, you would often find her snuggled up with a good book. Rita was preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years, the late Stanley R. Pordon. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Dr. Cynthia Pordon (Bill Check), and Char (Randy) Frizzell. She is also survived by several other family members and dear friends. Rita was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother. Mrs. Pordon will lie in state on Friday, June 23rd from 11:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Road in Warren.
