Richard A. Zellner, age 86, a retired Warren Fire Department Lieutenant, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at his home in Warren, Michigan. Richard was born January 17, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Anthony and Florence (nee: Reetz) Zellner.Mr. Zellner was raised in Detroit and worked for a short time at the Detroit Newspaper mail desk before enlisting in the United States Navy during World War II. Richard achieved the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. During his tour in the Navy, Richard served primarily in the South Pacific before being honorably discharged from duties in 1946.Following his service to country, Richard returned to the Detroit area and hired onto the Warren Fire Department where he would work for the next 27 years before retiring as a Lieutenant. He was the former President of the Warren Association of Retired Workers, and also a life member of the VFW Post 6756 in Warren. Further, Richard was a life member of the Dads of Foreign Service Veterans Post 97.Mr. Zellner was the beloved husband of the late Donna Jean (nee: Hoef), and brother of Donald Zellner. He is also survived by many dear friends. Visitation for Mr. Zellner will be held Thursday, May 8th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. His Funeral Services will be held Friday, 10:30am at the Funeral Home.
