Nicholas Paul Zulick, age 84, a longtime resident of Sterling Heights, Michigan, died Monday, February 4, 2019 at the William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Nicholas was born March 24, 1934 in Hamtramck, Michigan, son of the late Michael and the late Mary (nee: Perejda) Zulick.Nick, as he was more affectionately known, was raised in Detroit and later graduated from Henry Ford Trade School in Detroit. The skills he learned while in trade school gave Nick the tools he needed and utilized throughout his 34 year career with General Motors. While attending school as a young man, Nick just happened to befriend the brother of a pretty gal by the name of Florence Cunningham. Nick and Florence's brother would become good friends and eventually Florence would catch Nick's eye. It was only a matter of time that Nick and Florence would fall madly in love, and later marry on June 17, 1955. Nicholas and Florence spent the first part of their marriage living in Detroit, and later moved to the neighboring community of Hazel Park to begin their family. They would welcome two beautiful daughters to their lives, Cheryl & Kimberly.Nick served General Motors as a team leader who was involved in such projects as putting the first V8 in the Chevrolet Corvette. After 34 years of dedicated employment with the automotive giant, Nick finally accepted his well-deserved retirement,...and just recently celebrated his 32nd anniversary of retirement life. Following his many years of work, retirement for Nick and Florence would find the couple traveling extensively, which included visiting 49 of the 50 states. Along the way, Nicholas captured their adventures on film; he became an excellent photographer thanks to their travels. Along the road of life, Nick and Florence loved socializing which led them to discover the joy of square dancing. They became very proficient dancers while joining with five other couples in the fun. The six couples eventually called themselves the "Hay Lofters," and the friendship of these couples spanned more than 40 years, slowly evolving from dancing, to camping, and celebrations of every birthday and anniversary.Above all of Nicholas' greatest joys and accomplishments was his role as a devout family man. Nick was devoted to his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and siblings. It was the times spent with his family and dear friends that truly made him the happiest.
