Michael Joseph Petrack, 75, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away on April 9, 2025. Michael was born on September 26, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of Peter Petrack and Dorothy Petrack (nee Brosovich).
Michael dedicated much of his professional life to serving the public and nurturing minds. He began his career in administration with the City of Southfield and later at Schoolcraft College, where his leadership and dedication made a lasting impact. His passion for education ultimately led him to Oakland Community College, where he retired as an instructor of economics.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Michael was an avid reader, known to always have a book nearby—whether a dense economics tome or a gripping piece of fiction. He was also a passionate golfer, finding joy and peace on the course. His love for Arizona, originally a winter escape, blossomed into a full-time home where he spent his later years surrounded by the sun, scenic landscapes, and a welcoming community.
A true Pittsburgher at heart, Michael was cheering on the Steelers every Sunday, rallying behind the Penguins during playoff season, and staying hopeful with the Pirates year after year.
Michael’s life was marked by curiosity, quiet wisdom, and a genuine love of learning. He will be deeply missed by friends, former students, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife Cynthia Jo Petrack (nee Dietzel). His loving son Michael J. Petrack Jr., and granddaughter Lola Natalia Petrack. His dear siblings John (Lisa) Petrack, Keith (Michael Fetchko) Petrack, Doris Shields, Pat (Steve) Kardell, Helen (Martin) McKenzie, Carol (Joseph) Appel, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers any donations made to ALS of Michigan – Lou Gehrig’s Disease, 24359 Northwestern Highway, #100, Southfield, Michigan 48075.
