Mary Theresa Steele, age 98, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 30, 1925, to Theophil and Christine (née Klaes) Blind in Detroit, Michigan.
Mary was a devoted mother and cherished her role as a stay-at-home mom. She raised fourchildren, Charon, Robert, Noelle, and the late James finding immense joy in nurturing her family. She took pride in creating a warm, loving home that fostered nothing but love and support for her children and those she loved.
Mary’s vibrant spirit was reflected in her many passions, such as dance. From a young age, she was captivated by tap dancing and a good polka. No matter where or the circumstances, you could always find Mary dancing.
Mary’s creative talents were evident in her knitting, crocheting, and sewing. These crafts brought her great satisfaction and joy throughout her life. Her family members were grateful for her crafting abilities, as it often meant that something homemade was going to be gifted to them with love.
She was also a woman who had a deep appreciation for nature. Mary delighted in gardening, growing everything from flowers to vegetables and even trees from seedlings. She truly had a green thumb and love for the natural beauty of the outdoors. Her care extended to the birds and squirrels in her yard, many of whom she lovingly named. Mary found joy in the natural world and often visited the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan, where her brother had a place. These trips were a source of happiness for her. Every time she would visit up north with her family, she would return with rocks and tree saplings as cherished souvenirs, something that family remembers fondly.
Mary is remembered for her boundless love for her family and her ability to find beauty in the simple pleasures of life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
