After earning a Bachelors and Masters degree from the University of Detroit Marilynn started her 37 year teaching career at Rose Elementary School in Detroit. She transferred to Fitzgerald Public Schools in Warren where she was primarily a science teacher at Chatterton Middle School and taught planetarium classes throughout the district. Marilynn also had an enjoyable experience as a second grade teacher at Mound Park Elementary School. Her science experience, Chairperson of the Science Department and work on science fairs, made her well qualified for Science Coordinator at the Macomb Intermediate School District. She volunteered much of her time for Science Olympiad. Marilynn’s outgoing personality made her a popular teacher who inspired students to come in after school to learn.
During summer breaks and after retiring, she spent much time traveling the West and eventually spending summer vacations with her sister, Barbara, in a cabin in Creede, Colorado. She enjoyed yarn crafts and beading and attending craft shows to see new ideas.
Marilynn’s Catholic upbringing was important to her and she did volunteer work for St. Martin de Porres Parish in Warren during the holidays and on the Bereavement Committee.
Her parents, Alex and Ann, predeceased her and she is survived by her sister, Barbara. She will be greatly missed by many cousins and good friends.
Marilynn's family will hold a visitation on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 3:00pm-7:30pm with Rosary at 7:00pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd., Warren (Masonic/Schoenherr). A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 9:30am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Rd., Warren. Visitation at church begins at 9:00am
