Leonard Stanley Robinson, age 65 of St. Clair Shores, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at home. He was born on July 25, 1948 in Detroit, son of John and Alice (nee: Kapa) Robinson. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Leonard for his service to our country during the Vietnam War. With patriotism as his breastplate and bravery as his shield, Leonard served proudly as a soldier in the U.S. Army as part of Company A 68th Maintenance Battalion where he attained the rank of Technical Specialist 4th Class. Enlisting in December of 1965, he was honorably discharged in December of 1968 just 10 days shy of 3 full years. For the call to duty he so valiantly served, we honor Leonard's sacrifice and the role he played by standing in harm's way on our behalf. Not only did Leonard proudly serve in the armed forces, it became a unique and driving passion toward his career visions. He enjoyed his military service so much that he wanted to be a "Lifer!" That was the plan,...until he met the love of his life, Marshia,...and everything changed, of course, in a very wonderful way. Married to his beloved bride for 43 years, the couple had one beautiful daughter, Shawn, with whom they were most proud and blessed. When it came to Leonard's passions, they were limitless! He enjoyed going to Las Vegas and playing every game he came in contact with. He especially loved the lights of Las Vegas with their magnificent glow in the night sky. Leonard loved to play the lottery and won several times on the Daily 3 and 4 numbers, most notably the day he hit all 4 numbers and raked in a whopping $5000.00 dollars. He also enjoyed trying his luck with the "Fantasy 5" game a lot. Another of Leonard's favorite pastimes was fishing, a sport he loved immensely,...especially when it meant heading to some of his favorite fishing holes at White Lake, Houghton Lake, and Harsen's Island. He was also a huge fan of John Wayne and never grew tired of enjoying his many movies. Those closest to Leonard would say that he enjoyed reading, quite possibly, more than anything else. He always had a book in his hands. Whether it was Stephen King, James Patterson, or a random crime novel author, Leonard enjoyed devouring their works from cover to cover. He was also a big fan of the reality TV series, "Hardcore Pawn," especially the episode filmed on 8 Mile Road in Detroit.Leonard was a very happy-go-lucky man who possessed a great sense of humor,...yet will mostly be remembered for his giving heart. He would randomly buy hamburgers for homeless people just to make their day a bit brighter. Two stories epitomize the kind heart that he possessed. The first was when he had Marshia make 2 sandwiches for a random homeless man. They did not share the sandwiches together, rather, Leonard gave both to the homeless man,...who, by the way, looked exactly like Jesus Christ. Leonard lived out Jesus' words clearly, "Whatsoever you do for one of these least brethren of mine, you do for me." The second story came at a local pharmacy when he came across a lady who had no money to pay for her prescription. Without thinking twice, Leonard paid for her prescription in an instant! That's just the kind of man everyone knew him to be. While many will forever reflect on the goodness and kindness Leonard emanated, the most precious of memories will be those shared with family and friends. He loved children, especially his daughter Shawn. He absolutely could not resist holding babies whenever they were around. He also loved his dog "Cubby", and all animals in general. In light of Leonard's love of children and animals, it's no wonder that his favorite charities were St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and The Michigan Humane Society. Leonard is survived by his loving wife Marshia. He is the loving father of Shawn Marie Robinson. Dear brother of Dianne (David) Budnick, Jacqueline (Jerry) Rys, Larry (Terri) Robinson, Leona (Bill) Grinols, Marlene (the late Dell) Valentie, and the late Jonney Robinson. Visitation for Leonard will be held on Friday from 3:00-9:00pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 mile) in Warren. He will lie In State on Saturday from 8:30am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:00am at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 18720 E. 13 Mile Road in Roseville. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Please share memories of Leonard at his memory book.
