John married his late wife Maria in 1952 at St. Veronica Catholic Church and they spent 65 wonderful years together. They were long time members of St. Blasé Catholic Church and they belonged to the Carpathia Club for many years. He loved bowling and joined a league through the Carpathia Club. Before she passed, his wife Maria meant the world to him. He adored the time they spent dancing the waltz or to their favorite polka. He would help her in the garden, planting flowers and working on the fishpond. Their work together on their yard won them multiple beautification awards from the city of Sterling Heights. They took trips together, sightseeing around the national parks. After she passed, he kept up with the yard in her honor and even took over the tradition of cooking her homemade chicken soup recipe. He loved to barbeque and everyone looked forward to his Christmas Eve ribs he would make for the family.
