John Joseph Lewandowski, 91 of Warren, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren. Mr. Lewandowski was born June 19, 1916 in Hamtramck, Michigan the son of the late Joseph Lewandowski and the late Michelene (nee: Nagorski) Lewandowski. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Sophie (nee: Koziel), and his dear children Tom (Judy), John M. (Barbara), and Theresa (James) Bieniek. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and his siblings Mary Krawczak, and Edward Lewandowski. He was predeceased by his siblings, Sophie Krasowski, Angeline Kwiatkowski, and Lottie Hammen. Mr. Lewandowski was very athletic as a young child. He played many sports that included baseball, football and ice hockey. He continued his passion for sports as an adult by watching his favorite teams playing on television. Mr. Lewandowski was a member of the Boys Club of Hamtramck in 1934, and was also a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church Ushers Club. John and his wife Sophie loved to travel, many of their adventures included Hawaii, Florida, Illinois, and New York. Visitation for Mr. Lewandowski will be held Saturday 2-7 pm with at Rosary at 5:00 pm and on Sunday 1-5 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 Mile). He will lie in state 9:30 am Monday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 11200 Twelve Mile Road, Warren, Michigan, until the time of funeral mass at 10:30 am.
