John William Diakonis, age 58 of Sterling Heights, died Sunday, June 08, 2008 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. John was born April 12, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio the son of the late William Diakonis and the late Irene (nee; Yakumithis) Diakonis. John was raised in Toledo and graduated in 1968 from Central Catholic. After high school John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Once honorably discharged from the military John moved to the Detroit area for work. He worked for a short time in the Steel Mill and then went to work as a Wayne County Sheriff Deputy for the next ten years. John always stayed close to his Greek heritage and his interest in food and food service. He worked for many years at Hellas Greek Restaurant in Detroits Greektown District. John also worked selling cars for Crestwood Dodge and Don Massey Cadillac, before founding his own business, Prism Painting. His painting business evolved into a custom motorcycle painting enterprise. When John was not working he enjoyed, music, photography, and cooking. His family and friends will miss his wonderful meals he prepared. Johns passion in life was his motorcycle he was a member of the BMW Touring Club of Detroit. John was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Nicholas Diakonis. Survivors include his beloved wife Mitzi. He is the dearest father of Alexander, Marla, and Lauren. Loving Papou of Joseph, and Anastasia. Brother of Emmanuel Diakonis, and cherished nephew of Michael (Vasilike) Yakumithis, and Maria Halkias. John is also survived by many dear cousins and friends. Visitation for Mr. Diakonis will be Wednesday from 5-9 pm., and Thursday from 2-9 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover at Common (12 Mile). Funeral Services will begin Friday with John laying in state 10 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 Superior Street, Toledo Ohio, until the time of the Funeral Service 11 am. Celebrating the Funeral will be Rev. Fr. Aristotle Damaskos. Interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery in Sylvania.
