John proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. During that time, he worked for the Quartermaster corps dealing with the food supply. After his time in the military, John worked for the United States Postal Service for 34 years as one of the first mail carriers for the city of Warren. John was also a lifetime member of the Village Stinson VFW Post 9021 in Warren.
John married the love of his life, Rita, in 1955. Together, they spent 51 wonderful years together and raised three beautiful children. John loved being a grandpa and great-grandpa. He was well-liked and will always be remembered for his friendly demeanor and positive outlook on life. His legacy of love was rich with lessons that will remain long after today, and his character touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey through life. John will be missed immensely and loved eternally by all who knew him.
John was the beloved husband of the late Rita. Loving father of Dawn (the late Russell) Olexa, Kimberly Carlu, and the late Kevin. Cherished grandfather of Colin (Laurie) Olexa and Evan Olexa. Adored great-grandfather of Oliver and Milo Olexa. Dear brother of Louis Dauw, the late Mary Geisler, late Margaret Brabandt, late Elizabeth Dudek, late Elsie Krolik, and the late Edward Dauw.
A Memorial Visitation for John will be held Sunday, October 11th from 3-9 pm, with a 7 pm Prayer Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. His Committal Service will take place on Monday, October 12th at 10:30am at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
