Janice Catherine Wouters, 88, died on January 22, 2025 in Chesterfield, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 6, 1936 to the late Arthur Van Acker and the late Jessie (nee: Boyd) Van Acker in Brooklyn, New York.
Janice married the late Henry “Hank” Wouters, the love of her life on April 23, 1955, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Detroit. They spent 53 beautiful years together until Hank’s passing in 2009.
Janice and Hank created a warm loving home in Warren, Michigan where they raised their 8 wonderful children. Their home frequently was the neighborhood “hot spot” filled with joy and laughter creating unforgettable memories for all. From hosting pool parties to countless sleepovers with friends and cousins, Janice ensured all felt like family when in her presence and all were welcome.
Janice’s passions included reading, puzzles, sewing, volunteering, and crafting which she would spend countless hours on into the night. Being an avid Detroit Tiger fan was evident as she faithfully watched the games on TV or listened on the radio. She had a game schedule either on the fridge or in her little “pile” on the table where she would track the score after every game, never missing a chance to cheer them on.
While she had many memories throughout her life, the most treasured was of her late husband Hank speaking at the dedication of the Warren Police Station in 2008 as they renamed it, the Christopher M. Wouters Police Headquarters in honor of Chris, their son, who was killed there in the line of duty October 11, 2000. It was a proud and heartfelt moment the two of them shared as they worked diligently to make this happen, so he was never forgotten.
Traveling with her family was another passion, especially when the entire family sailed on a cruise together in 2004. They created lasting memories for all and while she had many family vacations, this trip was her most cherished memory.
Janice’s warmth, kindness, generosity, patience and love for family and friends will not be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
She was the beloved wife of the late Henry “Hank”. Loving mother of Hank (Doris), Elizabeth, Margaret (Michael) Cyplik, Kenneth (Nancy), Nancy (Frank) Kapral, Carole (Larry) Garner, and the late Paul (Lori) and Christopher Wouters. Mother-in-law of Val Wouters-Seagram. Devoted grandmother of 26 and great-grandmother of 40. Sister-in-law of Bernie (late Jackie) (late Carole) Wouters, the late Barbara (late Bob) Krause, Marion (late George) Treppa, and Catherine (late Arnold) Konen. Sister of Dennis (late Barbara) Van Acker, and the late Virginia “Ginger” (Jerry) Spinas. She was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on January 31, 2025, Friday 5-9 pm with a 7:30pm Eulogy Service at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road).
