Jane Margaret Zalenski, age 97 a longtime resident of Warren, died Thursday, December 26, 2019, at My Doctor's Inn Assisted Living in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Jane was born on March 29, 1922, in Hamtramck, Michigan, the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Theophila (nee: Arszulowicz) Radziewicz.
Jane was raised in Hamtramck and graduated from Hamtramck High School. During World War II Jane worked for the Department of Defense at Fort Wayne. She met her future husband, Henry on a blind date. Following Henry's military service the couple married in 1946.
Jane and her husband settled in the developing community of Warren Michigan where the couple raised their children and attended St. Anne Catholic Church. As the children became a bit older Jane returned to work part-time for Kelly Services and later full time as a medical transcriptionist for Bi-County Community Hospital in Warren. Over her career working, Jane excelled at her job and enjoyed the medical field.
When she was not working Jane and her husband loved being out on Lake St. Clair aboard their boat. The family was either leisurely boating or fishing... Jane's fishing prowess coined her the nickname "Catfish Jane". She and her husband both enjoyed the summers out on the water which eventually led them to spend retirement winters in Florida.
During her life in Warren, Jane bowled on leagues and played pinochle and bridge socially with her friends. She also was a wonderful homemaker and caregiver to her children. The family had many wonderful memories of their mother's Polish cooking skills which transcended to her children. Another one of Jane's attributes was her green thumb in her garden. She could grow beautiful flowers along with vegetables in her garden.
Jane was the beloved wife of the late Henry Zalenski and was the dear mother of Alice (Michael) Schwartz, , Paul (Carol) Zalenski, Margie (Bob) Wegener, and the late Allen Zalenski.
