Irene Mary Rak, age 87, died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at her home in Warren, Michgan. Irene was born June 28, 1928 in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Szczepan Lichota and the late Mary (nee: Madorski) Lichota.Irene was raised in Hamtramck within a loving and traditional Polish family. Irene graduated from St. Ladislaus High School and later went to work for the Burroughs Corporation. Her work would evolve from Burroughs to the LTV Corporation, and eventually to General Dynamics where she worked faithfully until her retirement. In her younger years, she valued hard work and caring for her parents. However, if there was a weekly Polka dance, she would dance the night away, sometimes, until 1am. Irene stayed very social and active. While still young, she sang at various functions with the Harsa Polish Choir. Further, she enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and family,...although she never enjoyed losing. Irene always "said it like it was",...she was straight to the point and strong willed. Irene could be tough but her toughness was quickly broken down by her many nieces and nephews whom she cherished and doted on. Irene was more of the "spoiling grandmother" than merely an aunt. She was loving and very generous,...not only with her nieces and nephews, but that love extended to the her great nieces and nephews as well.Later in life, Irene met the love of her life, John Rak, and the two forged a wonderful bond which they shared for many years. Irene cherished her time at the family farm in Goodells, and loved traveling. She traveled from Panama to Poland and the many countries in between.Irene Rak was the beloved wife of the late John Rak, and is the dear sister of Wanda (Chester) Domoracki, and the late Stephen E. Lichota. She was also the sister in-law of Sally Lichota. Irene is the devoted Aunt "grandmother" of Fred (the late Audrey) Lichota, Stephen (Rene) Lichota, Walter (Karen) Lichota, Linda (George) Spiers, Teresa (Tom) Wesolowski, Mary (Andrew) Schrand, Pauline (Rob) Rutkofske, Edward (Kim) Lichota, Darcy (Joe) Cardarelli, Jack (Zelma) Domoracki, James (Beth) Domoracki, Gary (Christie) Domoracki, Karen (Michael) Seidewand, and Christine (TJ) Lintz. Irene was further survived by many loving great neices, nephews, and friends. Visitation for Irene will be held Thursday, September 17th from 2-9pm, with an evening Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Irene will lie in state on Friday from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 10828 Brandon Rd, Emmett, MI 48022. Please share memories of Irene at her memory book above.
