In 1957, Jerry's career path took a different turn when he got hired to work for the City of Warren in their maintenance department where he eventually rose to the rank of Superintendent of Maintenance. Jerry would retire from there after more than 28 years of faithful service to the city that he loved. When Jerry was not working, his family and his faith were paramount in his life. Jerry and his wife were active and faithful members of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Warren. Jerry gave to the church in a number of generous and unselfish ways, to include such ministries as alter server, usher, Fish Fry volunteer, and maintenance helper, amongst many other volunteer duties at the church. Time away from home was spent at his northern Michigan retreat where he enjoyed cutting the lawn, fixing and tinkering, and snowmobiling. He and his family also enjoyed camping at other destinations in and around Michigan.Jerry was a man who could never sit still... if there was a job to do or a friend or neighbor in need, Jerry was there. He could paint, install fences, woodwork, or even clean carpets. All these skills led to his side job of running J&J Janitorial Services. However, most will remember Jerry for his humor and the consistent smile on his face. Jerry was known for sharing his affections openly, and would greet and welcome a family member or friend with a hug and kiss on the cheek.Jerry was the beloved husband of Marilyn (nee: Kranz) Sollars, and is the dear father of Ronald (Elayne) Sollars, Audrey (Robert) Rocco, Peggy (the late Joe) Cooper, Joyce Harrison, Phyllis (David) Robb, and Joann Evans.
