Gary Dennis Nawrocki, age 61 of Eastpointe, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. He was born April 9, 1956, son of Florence and the late Donald Nawrocki. In sharing this brief bio about Gary, perhaps the most definitive and noteworthy mention would have to be his love of cars. Along with the position he held as an automotive mechanic, Gary's appreciation for cars covered a large swath of interests that helped to feed his hunger for all things auto related. One of his favorite events included the many car shows he frequented throughout the years, especially the ones right here at home on Gratiot and Harper avenues. Not only did he find great enjoyment by taking in all that each show had to offer, but he was extremely proud of showing off his own wares in his Classic Oldsmobile and Plymouth Fury that made their way into the show as well.Another aspect of Gary's automotive interests were enjoyed with each NASCAR race he took in as he watched his favorite driver's compete for that weekly trophy,…and of course, that year-end Monster Cup trophy. In the earlier days, the main man was definitely Dale Earnhardt. But with his passing, the new guy to step into Gary's limelight was the young and talented, Joey Logano,…more affectionately known to all in the circuit as "Sliced Bread." Between the roar of the engines, the fierce competition, and the race towards the checkered flag, NASCAR and Gary were made for each other. When asked what sport was his favorite, mere seconds would pass before those iconic words would be heard, "NASCAR." Yet cars were not his only love,…another of Gary's yearnings came in the form of "food," and was definitely a pleasure he sought after with gusto. He loved to eat, and as the old adage goes; "when you're eating, you're happy!" And Gary was known for being quite the happy fellow. Though he wasn't picky or finicky, he could eat most anything and come away with a grin from ear-to-ear. But for all who truly knew and loved this man, there's no mistaking the fact that SWEETS were high on Gary's priority list. But nothing could hold a candle to the joys and pleasures Gary delighted in through the hearts and lives of his precious family and friends. It's been said; "the favorite things in life have nothing to do with things." And so it was with Gary,…there were so many things that brought him happiness in life, but none as treasured as his cherished loved ones. A loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Gary was a guidepost to them all in his own genuine way and leaves behind a legacy of love to be embraced with each reflection shared. Gone far too soon from our presence, we can be assured that he is now in the glorious presence of our Heavenly Father. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Gary was the beloved husband of Hope, and the loving father of Nicole Nawrocki and Laura Hunt. Dearest son of Florence and the late Donald Nawrocki. Brother of Allen (Barbara), Dennis (Stacey), and David (Patty) Nawrocki. Cherished grandfather of Madison and Stella, and Uncle of Jason, Jeffrey, Eric (Megan), Ashley, Katie, and Julie. Visitation for Gary will be held Wednesday, June 28th from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren. He will lie in state from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 23801 Kelly Road, Eastpointe, Michigan 48021.
