Born in Warren, Michigan to the late Werner and Hannelore Dorband, Gary was beloved by his family. Gary was a treasured husband of 37 years to Brenda Dorband and incredible father to daughter Kimberly (Jordan) VanDeSteene. One of his favorite titles was being "Pa" to Joel and Julianna VanDeSteene with whom he could be found making popcorn for movie night, fixing the kids "ridables" in his garage, building Legos at the dining room table, or racing RCs on Indian Hill. Gary was the younger brother to late Irene Arpino and Walter Dorband. He is Uncle Gary to Lisa (Leanna) Arpino and Erica (Matt) Batkins. He is also loved by Father-in-law Anthony Przywara (late Dianne Przywara) who share memories of weekends spent roofing, spending time at the cabin, playing cards on Friday nights, and enjoying a bowling league together. Gary is also remembered by Brother-in-law, Steve Carter (Dianna Carter) and John (Laurie) Arpino. In addition, he is celebrated by many friends who shared his love of building computers, riding dirt bikes, and enjoying concerts.
Gary was a well-respected Systems Administrator, spending most of his career at Ronart Industries. He was a mentor to many and looked forward to his retirement from Universal Management in 2025. Gary was an incredible wood worker, HAM radio operator, and executed his skills in many ways as he completed an entire renovation of Caseville home from 2015-2024 along side Brenda. Gary and Brenda were absolutely best friends who did everything together. They enjoyed many years of camping adventures in Fred (the motorhome), sunshine in St. Augustine, and most recently cruising the ocean. For those who knew Gary, you know the projects would never be finished as he loved "putzing" and creating. Gary was incredibly self-critical of his work and was always re-imagining and planning "date night" to Lowe's for the next project.
Gary's wishes were for all loved ones to remember him as he was as he "lived the love" everyday. His legacy will remain alive through all who loved him. Gary's final project was building Brenda the garden beds of her dreams in their backyard up in Caseville, which will serve as a quiet place to sit and celebrate everything that made him "Pa."
