Ethel Pearl Barretta

Ethel Pearl Barretta, age 94, a longtime resident of Warren, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Autumn Woods Healthcare Facility in Warren, Michigan. Ethel was born March 11, 1920 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Ethel came to Michigan as a young woman and later married the love of her life, Donald Barretta.Ethel and Donald settled on the east side of Detroit where they would raise their three boys. Later, the couple would move to Warren where the two would reside until their passing. Along with her care as a young mother, Ethel was also active with the Grant School Mother's Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Elks Club.Ethel was very proud of the fact that she became a United States Citizen in 1957. Her enjoyments came from bowling and playing cards with family and friends. She also enjoyed taking her casino junkets and giving OL' Lady Luck a run for her money. Ethel's sons remember their mother as a wonderful cook and baker,...often favoring Mom's desserts which included her wonderful cakes, pies, and cookies. Ethel was the beloved wife of the late Donald, and dear mother of Nicholas Barretta, Donald Jr. (Beverly) Barretta, and Michael Barretta. Loving Grandmother of Nicholas Barretta, Carrie Kivlin, Donald Barretta, Tony Barretta, Lori (Mark) Lopez, Michael (Staci) Barretta, and Great-Grandmother of Bridgette, David, Dena, Gabrielle, Amanda, Alyssa, Mark, Logan, and Tatum.Visitation for Ethel will be Sunday, October 5th from 5-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 mile). A private family Committal Service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Please share memories of Ethel at her memory book.
