Ernst Wimmer, age 69 of Warren, died Friday, April 19, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones at home. He was born August 12, 1949 in Berndorf, Austria, son of the late Ernst and the late Gertrude Antonia (nee: Ruesch) Wimmer. Choosing the admirable and time-honored career of truck driving, one of the major benefits of Ernst's work was in the many beautiful and scenic highlights he got to enjoy along the way. Boasting that he had the privilege of visiting all of the 48 contiguous states in our union, Ernst built quite the portfolio on his "travels with work." And when you're on the road for an extended period of time like he was, the joys and comforts of returning home become so very special, and the thoughts of seeing family again grow even more precious by the mile. For many years, that "family element" meant he was headed home to his wife, the girl he had met years prior while at a dance one evening in Vienna, Austria, the motherland of their descent. They would eventually marry and spend 30 years together as husband & wife,…but all-told, were together for over 45 years from that fate-filled day at the dance hall. When Ernst wasn't behind the wheel of his truck, you would have often found him behind the reel of his fishing pole, enjoying one of his favorite pastimes of all. Little says peaceful and refreshing like a day at an ol' fishing hole, casting your line out in hopes of landing "The Big One." Yet even if a fish was never caught, as the old adage goes; "the worst day fishing is still better than the best day at work." Another of Ernst's passions was found in the pleasures of playing cards, especially the game of Canasta. Yet it wasn't so much about the name of the game as it was about the joys of getting together with family and friends for a fun-filled time of making memories around the card table. A little friendly banter,…perhaps an adult beverage or two,…and a healthy dose of competition while the cards were slung around,…well, that simply spelt tons-o-fun for Ernst. And if the evening was really special, you just might have heard some of Ernst's favorite music, "The Oldies," being broadcast from the radio or played on the phonograph. He loved music of all kinds, but the oldies were the standards that enveloped his mind and heart. They came with so much more than pure music pleasure,…they ushered in a host of wonderful memories as well. Like most of us, holiday time was always special for Ernst, especially after his two children graced the family picture. But of all the holiday memories that filled his heart, Christmas reigned supreme. We all become kids at Christmas, and this was never more true than for Ernst. He cherished all the traditions and loved the family togetherness that enveloped the season,…it was the culmination of everything he held precious. A loving father and grandfather, Ernst leaves behind a legacy of love that will be treasured with each reflection shared by those who were blessed to know him. He touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey through life, and impacted many of them with his goodness and smile. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Ernst was the beloved father of Guenther Ernst Wimmer and Michelle Irene (Jessica) Brockman-Jones. Loving grandfather of Gabriella Michelle Brockman, Nicholas Avery Wimmer, and Connor Andrew Jones. Dear brother of Karin (Roland) Wimmer, and the late Guenther Wimmer. Cherished uncle of Judith Wimmer. Also survived by former son-in-law, Paul George Brockman and former mother-in-law, Ilona Rose Mazak. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren.
