Dolores Elizabeth Wilson

Dolores Elizabeth Wilson, age 93 of Eastpointe, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. She was born February 8, 1927 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and the late Mary (nee: Furgal) Przepiorka.

Born and raised in Detroit, many of Dolores’ fondest memories of her childhood and youth were the times spent playing with her cousins. They were together a lot through the years, and Dolores often loved to reminisce about those simpler times and the innocence of her earlier days. As she grew and matured, and began to find interest in the boys, Dolores’ friend Virginia played an integral role in arranging a meeting with a dashing young man by the name of Ed,…and from that came a friendship that both Dolores and Virginia would highly enjoy. Dolores and Ed, along with Virginia and her friend, spent many-a-date together and enjoyed each others’ company in whatever they shared. One of their favorite places to sneak away to was the quaint seaside hamlet of Harbor Beach, on the shores of Lake Huron and up the coast of the thumb.

Eventually Cupid’s arrow pierced both of their hearts and it wasn’t long thereafter that Dolores and Ed shared their vows of marriage and began their journey together as husband & wife. Little, then, did anyone know that Virginia would ultimately become Dolores’ sister-in-law,…but she did, which just cemented the friendship they were already sharing and made for a devoted relationship between the two throughout both of their lives. For many years, Dolores and Virginia stayed in touch through the many letters they wrote to each other,

When she wasn’t working, Dolores enjoyed a number of favorite pastimes, most of which were part of the game playing genre such as Bingo, Tripoly, Yahtzee, and the many varied card games that could entertain a table full of people. Many will also remember how much she loved to fish. She was definitely an all-around lady who loved making her mark on the world. She also found great enjoyment in sidewalk sales, craft shows,…but little could top the joys and pleasure she received in the times spent with her sons at their cottages in Glennie and Tawas, up there in God’s country. Equally precious were the moments spent with her grandchildren poolside,…or better yet, on the family vacations at the lake. Nothing spells fun more than the 3 F’s…Family, Floaties, and the Fresh Mitten water!

Dolores will also be remembered as a devout and reverent lady, steeped in her Catholic faith and beliefs. She prayed the Rosary often and was always attentive for the Catholic Masses at the senior living facility where she resided. The caregivers and nurses at the MediLodge thought Dolores was the cat’s meow,…and you could have peeled her off the ceiling the day she found out that she was “Resident of the Month.” She was so proud of the recognition, and rode that Happy Train right to the end of the month.

Another of Dolores’ sisters-in-law, Eleanor, was an important and special part of her life, too. She would come by and take Dolores on one of their weekly lunch trips, as well as doing a little shopping along the way. If they weren’t sharing each others’ company in person, then they spent many-an-hour on the phone engaged in their daily conversations, which went on until just a few months ago when Dolores suffered severe hearing loss.

Though Dolores hails from a time where many women prepared the family meals,…with Dolores, not so much. She left the cooking to Ed, the Resident Chef. But though she wasn’t there on the front end, it just wouldn’t have been a Sunday meal without seeing Dolores in the kitchen, clad in her familiar apron, with her hands in the sink as she was cleaning the dinner dishes. She was all over that chore, for sure.

Dolores was always…a “Lady.” There was never a question about her weekly hair appointment,…even toward the end at the nursing home,…it was vitally important to Dolores that she visit her stylist, or they visit her. She wanted to make sure that every hair was in place and she was ready for the show!

Dolores lived a wonderful 93 years, surrounded by love, and always made sure to ask about everyone ~ nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, her grandchildren and their spouses, and especially those cherished great-granddaughters whom she always made feel special by sending them $10 for their birthdays and Christmas. Family meant the world to Dolores, and each moment in their company rang home the reality that love matters and it’s the single most important aspect of our lives. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love to be embraced with each reflection shared. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.  

Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Edward. Dearest mother of Robert (Annette) Wilson, and the late Gregory Wilson. Loving grandmother of Jeffrey (Kristin), Rebecca (Michael) Bennett, and great-grandmother of Madison, Mackenzie, and Preston. Sister-in-law of Eleanor Preston. Predeceased by siblings Jennie Jahimiak and Steve Preston.

Dolores will lie in state on Thursday, January 14th from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sterling Heights. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.

Due to the pandemic, the family plans to host a future celebration of Dolores’ life, with a date & time yet to be determined.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
