Chester John Taylor, age 97 of Warren, died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at home. He was born April 20, 1921 in Detroit, son of the late John and the late Stella (nee: Iskra) Krawiec.Serving as an engineer for the government, Chester not only possessed a strong intellect but was also quite sound in body as well. Keeping in shape was high on his priority list, and one of the unique ways he answered that call was by walking to work. When most everybody else was motoring their way to the workplace, it was a common site to see Chester sauntering up to the door having just given his feet their morning calisthenics. But that walk was just part of his routine as Chester was committed to his workout regimen and remaining steadfast to keep in tip-top condition,…even into his 90's.Chester was a dedicated employee and worked diligently each and every day. And like most of us, he truly enjoyed those favorite pastimes, both indoors & out, that he worked so hard to earn. Together with his sweetheart & soul mate, Ellie, the two lovebirds just couldn't get enough of their favorite music from the Big Band era. Of course, it didn't hurt that it was the music of the times in which they lived. Yet theirs was an appreciation truly bound by a distinct passion for the genre. And not merely in the listening pleasure, Chester found great release in putting his feet to work again,…this time on the dance floor. For anyone who knows and remembers the sounds of the Big Bands, then it's only a small step in remembering what great music it was to enjoy while dancing. Chester was light on his feet, smooth in his movements, and could cut-a-rug with the best of them. He could dance the night away,…and often did with his sweetie in his arms. When Chester was simply looking for a little "me time," quite often it entailed him cozying up on a comfy chair and enjoying another of his favorite pastimes, reading. Whether it was something to build his mind or merely a taste for something entertaining, Chester was an avid reader who treasured each opportunity to grow in knowledge,…or to, perhaps, just smile or laugh over something light. But truth be told, some of Chester's most desired pastimes were those enjoyed in the outdoors. He loved being out in the open, soaking up the sun and fresh air, and partaking in some of the Mitten's great outdoor pleasures,…like the game of golf. Nothing says fun like joining a family member or friend for a sunny day on the links in search of that elusive Hole-in-One. And with the plethora of courses strewn throughout the state, Chester kept himself pretty busy having the time of his life. The outdoors also called his name when it came time for camping, another Mitten recreation that afforded he and his family a host of wonderful memories getting back to nature and gladly exchanging the concrete jungle for a taste of Heaven in Michigan. And hailing from a state that offers many seasonal treats, Chester was also a huge fan of the many winter sports that came with the season as well. But of all the outdoor pleasures he enjoyed the most, there was no topping his passion and desire for being at the lake. And for Chester, there was no topping the beauty and grandeur of one of Michigan's jewels, Cass Lake in Oakland County. Of all the lakes that speckle the state, there was just something special about Cass Lake that drew him there time after time. And of all the water sports that could be enjoyed, his favorite activity was climbin' aboard the boat seein' what she had. He loved boating immensely, and he was truly the Skipper of his craft. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Chester will forever be remembered for the kind, loving and generous guy he was to all,…and for what a great sense of humor he possessed and shared. If you weren't smiling when you entered his company, you were certainly doing so as you parted. At 97 years of age, just imagine all he has witnessed. Yet of all that impacted his heart and mind the most, nothing could hold a candle to the moments he spent in the company of his loved ones making memories to last a lifetime,…and he will truly be missed. Chester was the beloved husband of the late Elenora "Ellie". Dear father of Larry A. (Darlene) Taylor, Katherine A. Flick, and the late Carolyn J. LeGrand. Loving grandfather of 6, step-grandfather of 2, and great-grandfather of 13. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren. Please share memories of Chester at his guest book above.
