Charles William Wren, “Bill,” age 87 of Madison Heights, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 19, 2020 in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He was born on January 3, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late William Wren and the late Agnes (nee: Pheffer) Wren.
Bill honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
For 15 years, Bill worked as a milkman at Twin Pines, followed by the position he held as a dispatcher for Emory Airfreight for 25 years until his retirement. Bill enjoyed staying busy. He devoted his time to others serving as a Boy Scout leader, a volunteer at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and an usher at St. Dennis Catholic Church for 61 years. In his leisure time, Bill spent most of his time enjoying the outdoors and staying active. From golfing, to camping, rafting, and hiking, he did it all. Bill even hiked the Grand Canyon for the first time at age 62, and again at 65. Most of all, Bill was a family man. He loved spending time with his 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
His family and friends meant the world to him and the love he leaves behind is a testimony to a man of compassion who truly made a difference in so many lives.
He was the loving husband of Mary Ellen. dear father of Tim (Susan), Jim (Bertha), Sean (Laura Lee), Terry (Lynn), Kevin (Karen), Eileen Kokx, and Maureen. Cherished grandfather of Amy, Joshua, Casey, Chris, Leanne, Jeremey, Pat, Kelley, Keith, Chris, Matthew, Ethan, and Elyse Wren; Angela Babcock, Sandra Thomas, Sergio Sarmiento, Bridgette Hoepner, Jessica Dummit, and Gaven Porter. Adored great-grandfather of Bella, Ava, Jack, and Andrew Babcock; Addyson, Olivia, and William Thomas; Jax Sarmiento, Kaila Ledford, Georgia and Annie Wren, Reese Taylor, Grace Gray, and Elowyn Porter.
Mr. Wren will lie in state on Thursday, January 23rd at Guardian Angels Catholic Church from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Officiating the Funeral Mass will be Fr. Dennet Jung. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
