Carole Anne Henkel, age 81 of Sterling Heights, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. She was born May 7, 1934 in River Rouge, Michigan, daughter of the late Clayton and the late Mildred (nee: Paddock) Beck.Carole was the oldest of 6 kids, all of whom grew up in the quaint shoreline city of St. Clair Shores. For 26 years, she worked in the Deli Department at Chathams Grocery Store, and later for the Kroger corporation. When she wasn't working, Carole enjoyed a number of different pastimes,…all of which defined the character of this engaging lady. Perhaps the most special of all was her love of traveling. She had a portfolio filled with the beautiful and scenic highlights enjoyed throughout the years, and the coveted memories made in the process. Every now and then, Carole's travels would find her giving Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money with a day spent at the casino. She loved the slot machines and the excitement that always seemed to accompany a bit of gambling. As for the things she enjoyed indoors, Carole was quite adept with her hands and put them to work in the many craft projects she produced, as well as the talents she possessed in crocheting. Along with her personal crafting, Carole was also a collector of crafts and various antiques. She definitely had a creative eye and touch, and loved to share her artistic side whenever possible. Then there was her affinity for God's little creatures, specifically the birds & squirrels. They could keep her entertained for hours, and they often did. But the most endearing of Carole's animal friends was her cherished cat, "Precious"…and that it was. Yet it was more than merely her friend, it was a loving companion who filled her heart with joy unspeakable,…a connection that only cat owners can comprehend. Yet of all the pastimes and moments that provided Carole her most treasured memories, those were found in the love of family,…especially the precious times spent with her great-grandchildren. It always seems that the youngest among us keep us young, and her little cherubs couldn't have been more welcomed than in the many visits they enjoyed together. For they, and all those who were blessed to know this wonderful lady, she leaves a legacy of love that will be warmly received with each reflection shared. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Carole was the loving mother of Gary (Connie) Henkel DDS, Vickie Harp, and Robert (Karen) Henkel. Beloved sister of Mark Beck and Michael (Cheryl) Beck. Dearest grandmother of Bobby, Erik, Jessica, Amanda, Andrea, Christina, and great-grandmother of Isabella, Noah, Elijah, Colton, Liam, Anyel, Nicolas and Roman. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 30, 2015 10:00 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren. The family will greet friends at church after 9:30 am.
