Carl A. Lahr, age 71 of Macomb, died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at his home. He was born on January 24, 1940 in Highland Park, the son of the late Hans and the late Elizabeth (nee: Keranen) Lahr. It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband and father, Carl Alden Lahr, following a miraculous 14 year battle with prostate cancer. He will be forever loved by his wife of 46 years, Karen (nee: Pinsch); daughter, Kiersten; son-in-law, Michael Robison; brother, Paul J. (Betty Jean) Lahr of Oceanside, California; brother-in-law, Clarence "Bub" (Laura) Pinsch; sister's-in-law, Beverly (Don) Miller and Marilyn "Bunny" Stankiewicz; as well as numerous & beloved nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his devoted Siamese cat, Kahlua, who was lovingly by his side throughout his illness. Carl was an inspiration to all as he courageously faced each day with a positive attitude. He was able to look at his trials & tribulations with absolute faith, hope, and trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As the disease progressed and his quality of life diminished, Carl, heroically, never gave up his battle. Even amidst his challenges, Carl's unmatched bravery and strength of character set him apart from the rest. With a genuine caregiver's heart, he still found the ability to reach out to others with the same compassion, as always, that was the essence of the life he led. Carl was especially thankful for the dedicated, caring doctors and nurses at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He maintained that without the skills and knowledge of Dr, David Smith (his Onocologist), he would not have survived the advanced, inoperable prostate cancer he battled. He was also quite proud to be the first candidate for a Phase One Clinical Trial at the University of Michigan. The family wishes, as well, to thank the caregiver's of Beaumont Hospice for their compassionate care and support. A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers-Local #58, he served as an electrician for over 45 years. Carl spent the last 10 years volunteering for "Meals On Wheels" until he became too ill to continue. Carl's bliss included ice-fishing, music, concerts, cribbage, and Euchre. Memorable summers were spent with family and friends at their cottage on Georgian Bay in Canada. Carl was surrounded by his loved one's as he peacefully embraced the Lord. Visitation for Carl will be on Thursday, March 3rd from 1:00pm - 9:00pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Friday from 10:00am until the time of his funeral service at 11:00am at Hope Lutheran Church, 32400 Hoover Road in Warren. Interment will follow at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan. Please share memories of Carl at his guest book.`
