Billy Joe Roberson, age 75 of Warren, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was born December 29, 1939 in Spencer, Tennessee, son of the late Edward "Henry" and the late Annis "Opal" (nee: Bouldin) Roberson. The year was 1960,...the" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...the place was St. Barnabus Catholic Church in Eastpointe,...the glorious event was the joining of two hearts in marriage as high school sweethearts, Billy Joe and Janet uttered those life-changing words, "I do"...and" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...and their lives together as husband & wife began. They were ultimately blessed with three beautiful children, worked hard to nurture the comforts of home, and grew deeper in love with each passing day.Billy Joe was a truck driver by trade, but was also renowned for being the consummate "Mr. Fix It." He knew how to use his tools and was always willing to dive into most any project that came along. He truly put the "handy" in Handyman, and garnered much pride in being able to help out and effect repairs as needed. Another form of work that kept him busy were the times he spent in his thriving vegetable garden. Yes, it was work,...but" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...but to Billy Joe, it was more like an artist with his palate. The garden was his backyard oasis,...a place where he would lose himself in the nurturing and maintenance that came with the utmost in tender-loving-care. Billy Joe was always ecstatic about the fruits of his labors, but never more than with his tomatoes. They were truly his pride & joy, and he grew 'em quite big on the "Roberson Farm."For a more unique sense of fun and enjoyment, Billy Joe decided to add to his favorite pastimes the joy of flight. Obtaining his coveted pilot's license, he loved hopping in an airplane and setting himself free amidst the clouds and heavens, partaking of the landscape in an entirely unique way that many of us can only dream about. The other aspect of his life that instilled much pleasure and invigoration was his love of conversation,...especially that within the religious and political realms. He thrived on talking about current events, but would happily engage anybody on just about any topic,...but it was religion & politics where he shined, and where things often became quite heated. Billy Joe was knowledgeable in a plethora of topics and had spent a lifetime honing his debating skills. Perhaps it was all those hours in the cab of his truck listening to the radio that fed his hunger,...and the next conversation was simply awaiting. Billy Joe was a "helper" extraordinaire, the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. If you needed help, he'd jump through any hoop necessary to make it happen. He possessed a kindness and compassion that set him apart, and was all part of what made him such a loving and caring family man. Billy Joe's family reigned supreme in his life,...especially when it came to his adoring grandchildren. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Billy Joe leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be felt with each reflection shared. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Billy Joe was the beloved husband of Janet, and the dear father of Cherie (Richard) Duff, Patti (Scott) Whitmore, and Daniel (Heidi) Roberson. Loving grandfather of Richard, Holly, Jackie, Scotty, Cherie, Christina, Daniel, Jenna, Brayden, and Caleb. He was preceded in death by 3 siblings; Edward "Douglas" Roberson, Charlene Black, and Larry Roberson. Visitation for Billy Joe will be held Thursday, May 7th from 3-9pm at the D.S.
