Adela Theresa Kaye, age 98, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Mary's Center for Seniors in Clinton Township, Michigan. She was born March 9. 1920 in Hamtramck, daughter of the late Anthony and the late Caroline Markunas. In days gone by, Adela truly enjoyed her career as a cashier at the Chathams Supermarket, where she eventually climbed the ladder of success to the position as Head Cashier. A hard worker who poured the best parts of herself into bringing a smile to each of her customer's faces, Adela was always a ray of sunshine to the shopper's who happened through her checkout station. And speaking of shopper's,…Adela absolutely loved being on the other side of the checkout lines as well. For anyone who knew this bargain-hunting lady, they'll be able to attest to Adela's proclivities and passions when it came to shopping. She shopped every day of her life and never became overwhelmed or satiated in the process. It was about "finding a deal" and possessing those bragging rights when she "bagged a bonanza." In her vibrant days, you'd often find her with the army of other women in downtown Detroit helping to keep the doors open at J.L. Hudson's. But that was merely one of the many sources Adela counted among her Houses of Merchandise. There was no store too small when it came to fulfilling her shopping passion, and her closets are a testament to just how passionate she was. Even unto the day before her passing, Adela was walking the halls and visiting each room in her adult foster care residence "looking for a deal." She would often saunter into the facilities' laundry room so she could espy the clothing hanging on the line,…and it wouldn't have been strange to find her wearing one of the pieces and commenting on what a great deal she got and how good she looked in her new duds. There's never been a shopper who has had it Goin' On like Adela did.Adela was also quite fond of the entertainment she enjoyed through the cinema and television. From the major motion pictures at the theater to her favorite game shows and variety shows on TV, Adela's tastes were aptly invigorated on both the big and small screens alike. She was also quite the socialite and loved being out with family and friends,…especially when it included eating out and sharing a meal together. It's been said, "when you're eating, you're happy"…and Adela coveted that source of happiness as often as possible. Then came another favorite pastime of hers,…giving Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money! From the Bingo Hall to the Windsor Casino, Adela was game for just about anything when it came to fattening her pocketbook. Many may not know that Adela had an exercise regimen,…and it was witnessed every time she pulled down on the lever of that "one-armed bandit." And not merely in Windsor, but Adela often joined some of her fellow Golden Warriors as they boarded the bus for casinos afar. Sometimes the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant,…sometimes the Turtle Creek Casino in Traverse City, but always a place that provided the pinnacle of entertainment,…and hopefully a happy trip to the cashier's window in the end.A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Adela leaves her imprint upon the hearts and souls of the many lives she touched in her journey this side of Heaven,…and a legacy of love that will be cherished with each reflection shared by those who were blessed to know her. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Adela was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Francis Kaye. Dearest mother of Michael Joseph (Gloria) Kaye. Loving grandmother of Andrea (Kenneth) Chomistek, Jeffrey (Katrin) Kaye, and great-grandmother of Anna, Regina, Alex, James, and Eva. Preceded in death by siblings Joseph, Ann, and Casimir. Visitation for Adela will be held Thursday, June 21st from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. She will lie in state on Friday from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren.
