Auntie Angela was born to Casildo and Martha Dacquel in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, P.I. She graduated from Northern Christian College, Loag Ilocos Norte, in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation, Angela married Mariano Arreola in Baguio City, P.I. Shortly thereafter, she migrated to the U.S. to join Mariano. They owned and farmed 40 acres and, with Mariano’s brother Ted Arreola Sr., ran Arreola’s Fruit Stand on Lateral A in Wapato.
Auntie also worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, now Regional, from 1970 until her retirement in 1981. She was one of the pioneers of the Wapato Filipino Community and was the 1st Filipino cultural dance instructor. Auntie was a member of Seattle’s Santa Maria’s Association and St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, praying, playing mahjong, going to the casino, and gardening. Auntie was unassuming with a sweet smile, always wanting to give, share, and help others.
Her first love and concern was her family’s well-being. Auntie’s golden rule was “Help each other, especially if you’re the able one.” She lived independently until the age of 98 with her dog “Smarty.” Auntie knew and loved her God and remained prayerful until her passing.
Angela was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband, a brother, four sisters, a niece, and three nephews. Survivors include many nieces and nephews: Evelyn Varona (Jim), Ted Arreola, Jr. (Emily), Mary Davis (Tom), Benzie Dacquel (Nancy), Amante Dacquel (Marilyn), Maria Dollente (Francis), Leonida Delarmente (Cesar), Fely Macariola (Pepe), Nancy Corpus (Pouling), Henry Diga (Melissa), Boy Diga (Naty), Elmer Diga (Maria), Ed Dolan (Rosita), Danny Dacquel (Leti), Beth Isaguirre, Edwin and Lito Diga, and stepdaughter Evelyn Brown. The family would like to give special thanks to Emerald Circle and their staff for their exceptional, compassionate, and loving care, to the Filipino Community of Wapato, to the Santa Marian’s, and to all who touched Auntie’s life with prayers, kindness, and love.
