SHELBY JEAN HICKS
-------------------------------------------------
Shelby Jean Hicks, age 79, of Prince Frederick Maryland passed away on September 21, 2024 at 3:20pm after succumbing to her injuries after a car accident.
Shelby was born on June 14, 1945 to Ida Mae Asbury and John Morgan Blankenship. After Shelby graduated from Big Creek High School she married William (Bill) Edward Hicks who had joined the navy. The two lived in Key West Florida where she gave birth to her son, William Logan Hicks on March 14, 1971. Shortly after his birth they moved to Maryland where they lived at Patuxent River Naval Station in Southern Maryland.
Shelby attended St Mary’s College while raising Logan full time. Her focus was early childhood development but also took studio art classes. Shelby would sometimes bring Logan to class with her, and these art classes would be the first time her son was exposed to art.
Around 1985 Shelby and Bill divorced and she moved to Benedict Maryland where she met Linda Scott. The two would remain partners for 40 years before Linda passed away from cancer in 2021.
In 2007 her grandchild, Sailor Hicks was born fulfilling her wish to be a grandmother. Shelby would beamed with pride about her grandchild who recently entered college.
Shelby was a radiant person. There was no such thing as a stranger, only friends that she had not met yet. A tireless champion of her son and grandchild, she would often share stories about their projects and art to complete strangers. She was a quiet philanthropist who donated to numerous causes and charities. She loved gardening (especially her tomatoes and cucumbers), her flowers, her house and loved collecting oddities and antiques.
Shelby is survived by her son Logan Hicks (Lori Zimmer), her grandchild Sailor Hicks, her brothers Tom Blankenship (Kelly Blankenship), Bret Blankenship (Melinda Blankenship), her sisters Karen Paige Johnson and Anita Duncan (Tom Duncan), and an extended family of Carol Hooper and Janice Tribble.
A service is not scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to one of the many charities that she supported such as:
