Russell “Russ” Alan Ritchie, 74, of Brandywine, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for two years and he never ceased to amaze his family and friends with his strength and bravery.
Born on July 27, 1949, in Seymour, Indiana, Russ was the beloved son of Albert and Mary Ritchie. He grew up in Scipio, Indiana, and graduated from North Vernon High School. Russ served in the United States Air Force for ten years as a Tele-Communications Systems Control Technician and then after he left the Air Force, he dedicated his career in the Communications Field for more than forty years. His dedication and hard work were beyond impressive and he was admired by all who knew him.
Russ and his family settled in Brandywine, Maryland in 1981. His Family was the center of his life. He was a devoted husband to Linda Lou Ritchie for 54 years whom he married on November 30, 1969. Russ was a loving father to Stacey Jo (Ritchie) Johnston and Bryan Alan Ritchie, always providing guidance, support, and unconditional love.
Russ enjoyed spending all of his free time with his children and grandchildren; either creating new innovations for them to play with in the backyard, cheering for them at their sporting events, or celebrating them at graduations and during pivotal moments in their life. He was as competitive playing games with his children and grandchildren as he was with racing radio-controlled cars and playing golf. Russ loved spending free time in his garage that he built to use as his, “shop.” Building, welding and teaching his family his craft were precious to him. Some of his best times were being by Linda’s side at the beach. Time by the ocean brought him both solace and joy with Linda. Russ cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.
Russ will be deeply missed by all who had the sincere privilege of knowing him. His kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire us all.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Ritchie; children, Stacey Jo Johnston (Keith) and Bryan Alan Ritchie (Cheryl); 5 grandchildren: Jeremy (Morgan), Alexandra, Jacob and Joshua (pre-deceased) Johnston and Jason Ritchie; brother, Randall Ritchie. Two beautiful sisters preceded Russ in death; Melanie Harris and Cecilia Luce.
A celebration of life to honor Russ’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Huntts Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Chesapeake, who supported Russ and his family with compassionate care. (hospicechesapeake.org)
