Ricky “Rick” Lee Snider, born in Dayton, Ohio, age 65, of Accokeek, Maryland passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Son of Clarence E. “Gene” Snider and Marlene “Betty” Swann Snider. He is survived by his two children Amber C. Snider and Thomas “Tommy” C. Snider, his brothers and sisters, James “Jimbo” and Denise Snider, Sherry and Dave Hrycyk, Caren Snider-Price, Ruth and Jim Lowery, and David Snider, his mother Marlene Betty Snider, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, colleagues, and his two chihuahuas (Casey and Daisy). He is predeceased by his father, Clarence E. Snider. Rick had a long and exceptional career: In his early years, he worked as a Volunteer Fireman at West Lanham Hills Fire Department, an Electrician for Mona Electric, and also as an Elevator Mechanic at General Services Administration (GSA) in DC. He then went to work for Quality Elevator Inc. as a proud, distinguished, and dedicated employee, and was a member of the Local 10 Elevator Union for over 42 years. Rick dedicated his life’s work to the trade as an elevator adjuster and was known as “the best in the field.” “The best of the best,” as they say, and he truly was a genius with elevators, both trouble-shooting and servicing elevators at the Washington National Monument, The White House, Justice Department, NASA, State Department, and various other high-profile federal government buildings across the Metropolitan DC area.
Rick was a loyal friend to many. He loved classic fast cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, watching football, especially the “Commanders” aka Washington Redskins, collecting old memorabilia, listening to ‘70s music, visiting his favorite pubs, ice-cold Budweiser, tequila shots, a good steak, barbecues and crab feasts (with apple cider vinegar and old bay), or just hanging out with his close friends and little beloved dogs. You’d never catch him without a nice pair of leather boots and could spot him a mile away with his distinctive walk. He was also a Freemason, as was his father and grandfather. Rick was never afraid to be himself, would always tell people what he thought and was known for being quite the ornery, stubborn, charming (especially with the ladies), and humorous guy. When he was young, he was quite the daredevil, whether it was paragliding or taking his Harley or a fast car out for a wild spin.
Rick was a unique individual and had his own style. He would often say “I am who I am” with a laugh or a growl to whomever crossed his path. Nevertheless, he was always true to himself and friends no matter what.
Requests: Since Rick loved music, his children would love for everyone to submit a song that reminds you of him (and a few words about it) to this Google Form: https://forms.gle/PiWDsePLkawZqxWq5
The collected songs will be turned into a nostalgic “mixtape” and played during the ceremony (and also available on Spotify afterwards).
We ask for your continued prayers for the family during this time. Flowers and mementos can also be sent to Huntt Funeral Home. Please follow this page for more updates.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Huntt Funeral Home, Waldorf, Maryland
