Kelly Ann Brady Schwartz, 51, of Cheltenham, MD passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on April 14, 2020 after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Kelly was born in Washington, DC to Nada K. Brady and the late Thomas J. Brady on April 30, 1968. She is survived by her beloved husband, Chris, and her pride and joy, Shane. In addition to her spouse and son, Kelly leaves behind her mother, stepchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, countless dear friends, and her three cats.
Kelly grew up in University Park, MD in a large, Irish Catholic family. Her family, immediate and extended, her Irish heritage, and her faith were very important to her throughout her life; something that was evident to anyone who knew her. Kelly attended St. Mark’s Catholic School in Hyattsville, MD (Class of 1982) and Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, MD (Class of 1986). After graduation, Kelly began her 17-year career as a claims representative for Geico; first in Chevy Chase, MD and later in Fredericksburg, VA. After meeting and marrying her husband of 20 years, Kelly moved to Cheltenham, MD where she and Chris started their family. Being a mom was a dream come true for Kelly and her love for Shane was her driving force, especially as she battled this terrible disease. Kelly, Chris, and Shane joined St. Peter’s Church in Waldorf, MD where Shane studied and Kelly ran the school lunch program.
Kelly enjoyed photography, writing poetry, birdwatching, get-togethers with special friends and family, traveling, and being there for anyone who needed her. When Kelly made friends, which she did everywhere she went, they became friends for life.
Kelly will be remembered for her beautiful laughter, the twinkle in her eye, her thoughtfulness and kindness, her inspirational messages, the selfless and unconditional love she gave to everyone she met, and her brave and fighting Irish spirit. Our Phoenix warrior, gone but never forgotten. “You have seen my descent, now watch my rising” - Rumi.
A memorial mass and celebration of Kelly’s life are being planned so that everyone who loved Kelly can come together to laugh, to cry, and to remember her once it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lesliesweek.org or Metavivor.org in Kelly's name.
